Tourist Attraction of Karauli
The small rural town of Karauli shares its borders with Madhya Pradesh, Dausa, Dhaulapur and Sawai Madhopur. With considerably plentiful environmental wealth and breathtaking picturesque splendor, Karauli has turned into a popular hot destination with tourists calling on Rajasthan. Countless great antiquated shrines, beautiful decorated havelis and imprinted chatrris dot the whole city. The flawless merger of the classical panache of Mughal buildings with cheerful insignia and elaborate carved stone work echo the true old Rajasthani elegance of construction.
City Palace :- City Palace is located at Karauli City in the state of Rajasthan. This palace was constructed in the 14th century and is famous for its classic paintings, stone carvings, architecture and lattice works. Moreover, the 600 year old artwork is still evident in the Darbaar Hall that also contains old pictures of the palace.Till 1938, the palace remained the official residence of the royal family. After the construction of the Bhanwar Vilas Palace, the royal family shifted from this palace. Although the old palace was constructed in the 14th century, the present City Palace that is ornamented with stucco work and frescoes dates from the 18th century.The big hall is equipped with all the basic facilities and was used by the royals to meet the commons. In addition to this, this hall was also used as a venue to solve the issues related to general administration and welfare.
Ramathra Fort :- Ramathra Fort is situated in Sapotra in the Karauli District of Rajasthan. The fort is located between Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur and Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Sawai Madhopur. At a distance of 15 km from the fort is located Keladevi Wildlife Sanctuary. Within its premises, the attraction contains the fort, the lake and countryside.Maharaja of Karauli granted the fort as jagir (fiefdom) in 1645 AD to Thakur Bhoj Pal, his son. The fort is currently managed by Thakur Brijendra Raj Pal and his family. Within the fort lie Ganesh Mandir and Shiva Mandir that houses a marble idol of Lord Shiva displaying the craftsmanship of the early 18th century.From the fort, tourists can enjoy the views of the farmland, rugged scrub of the Daang Plateau, Kalisil Lake and its irrigation canal. The lake is visited by numerous water birds from the nearby Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Owing to its location in part of a green farming belt in the Kalisil River Valley, the area around the fort abounds with greenery.
Bhanwar Vilas Palace :- Bhanwar Vilas Palace was built in the late 1930s for the ruler of Karauli, Maharaja Ganesh Pal Deo Bhadur. The palace was meant to serve as a royal residence for the king. The interior of the palace has been designed in the colonial style with art-de-decor period furniture. The palace was constructed by Maharaja Ganesh Pal Deo Bhadur in 1938.Although the palace has now been converted into a heritage hotel, it still contains its original 80 years old furniture.
Kaila Devi Temple :- Kaila Devi Temple, located at the distance of 23 km from the Karauli, is considered as one of the 9 Shakti Peethas of Goddess Durga. The temple is believed to have been built in 1100 AD and is dedicated to Shri Kaila Devi Ji.On the eve of 15 days long Chaitra Navratra, a large number of devotees visit the temple, especially from Eastern Rajasthan, M.P. and U.P. Apart from this, tourists can also visit the Bhairon and Hanuman Temples situated in the vicinity of the Kaila Devi Temple.
Keladevi Wildlife Sanctuary :- Keladevi Wildlife Sanctuary is an extension of the Ranthambore National Park and is spread in an area of 676.40 sq. km. At the western tip of the sanctuary, tourists can see River Banas, whereas at the south-east River Chambal flows. This sanctuary is surrounded by natural beauty and is named after the Keladevi Temple. Tourists visiting the sanctuary can also see the high hills in the interiors along with the dense forests.Moreover, tourists can also catch sight of several khos such as chirmul, ghanteshwar and khadi in the sanctuary. This sanctuary is house for many animals including chinkara, wild boar and jackal. Apart from these, tiger, leopard, sloth bear, hyena, wolf and sambhar are some of the other animals seen in the sanctuary.
Shri Mahavir Ji Temple :-Shri Mahavir Ji Temple is located in the village named Chandangaon of Karauli District in the state of Rajasthan. Several years ago, sand stone statue of Lord Mahavir was extracted from the soil of the village in which it is situated. This 78 cm high idol is copper coloured and is in the Padmasana posture.
